I am always amazed at how much contrast and texture appears in all neutral compositions. These small (3″ x 3″) collages were all made from the little scraps of vintage papers that usually cover my work table (and floor) — the pieces I can’t bring myself to throw away. They tend to be neutral since I have an obsession with old papers. My love of typography also shows up in these pieces.

Altered State

While absorbed in an “altered state” of artistic flow one can escape everything.

The word “absorbed” was handwritten and erased on the vintage lined notebook paper in this collage and papers altered by rust were added.

At Odds with Nature

From someone who equates pulling weeds to a prison sentence, this piece has a special meaning. The words “Argumentation and Debate” are the only ones in this minimalist composition among the neutral book pages and the nature prints. Those words and my opposition to nature inspired the name.
